A Game of Walls and Tweets #1 - The Importance of Those Around You

A Game of Walls and Tweets #1 - The Importance of Those Around You

Hello everyone! This is a new blog whereby I would like to discuss and analyse the importance of Social Media and how YOU can use it to its maximum benefit. You see, social media rules the world now, let's face it, most, if not everyone you know uses a form of social media. Not only that but social media is being used by a variety of different people and places such as companies, social groups, individuals, charities and so much more.

What I would like to discuss today is the importance of interacting with those physically closest to you. Over the past year, I have built a following of 40,000 LOCALS across various social media platforms. This was important for me as my content was all locally based anyway. However, I found that local users are the most likely to share and support your activity. Its always a good start to have a solid platform of potential traffic or viewers when your aim is to share content but creating that solid platform is difficult. Starting with a local platform in my opinion is the easiest starting point mainly because if you and a follower share a locality, you share a strong common interest.

So how do you build a local platform? There are many ways you can build a local follower base. Firstly, acknowledge and understand who and what are the central services, businesses and social groups in your area. I found that the local police force are a great example and that is what I shall use in this article. This is because my local police force have accounts on social media that are extremely popular and very well utilized. They built up a local following automatically as local people flocked to their account because of its relevancy.

So how did I turn their local followers into my own? There were a number of ways, all of which were simple and convenient. Firstly I maintained a steady interaction with my local police accounts. This allowed their followers to see our interaction, which allowed them to see and remember my logo. Those that were immediately interested became followers instantly, those that weren't eventually followed when they saw something of mine that peaked their interest. Share their content as well, that will make it more likely that they will share your content in return to a much bigger audience.

Having good, steady, interaction in your locality will also provide an extra layer of local credibility. Seeing you interact and associate yourself with already established local people and services will naturally put you in a more accepting position to those who are initially wary as to who you are and what you do. Make sure you acknowledge where you're situated no matter what the context of your accounts are. This will make it a lot easier for locals to manually find you on their own time. By adding locations on your account will also place you higher on the 'people you may know' service on each social media platform.

Starting locally was key to many of my projects and now it is a must do for any future ones of mine. Have you used this formula or do you not really care? Let me know what you think and I hope you all enjoyed the read! Have a nice day everyone!
